Failed 160GB IDE Hard Disk

My 160GB IDE hard disk has failed. This has happned twice now and I still dont know the reason. A beep sound comes from the HD and then it hangs the system. After reboot the HD is not there or not dttected.
The primary HD is a 200GB SATA and that's working fine.

Can some one please tell me what the problem could be. I am suspecting my SMPS. Not sure what else could be the issue.
