Hi,

I've been installing MSDE 1.0 in different computers that have Win98. Most of the installations went fine. However, I received "installation failed" on a few computers. I checked the errorlog file and it didn't tell me much except for "failed to get sqlservr image range" and in the cnfgsvr.out file I got "SQL Server does not exist or access denied". Anyone knows what went wrong?

Thanks!

From what I've read this problem is most likely due to an MDAC incompatibility. You should run the COMCHECK utiltiy to make sure all components of MDAC are at the correct level on the PCs where you've been unable to install MSDE.

INFO: Component Checker: Diagnose Problems and Reconfigure MDAC Installations

If you want to get the best answer for your question read faq183-874 and faq183-3179.
