Big Bad Dave,

Hope you read this. I got your fade/drop menu to work... sorta kinda. Only thing is the white box that hides the upper menu covers my background and also trips the menu when you rollover it. I noticed how you have your buttons positioned at the top of the stage to prevent this. I tried placing it in a movie clip at the top of the stage and then loading it into the movie but it didn't work. Also, tried placing the background/logo over the upper white box but couldn't get it to line up correctly.

I've set up a test page so ya'll can see what's going on. The url is
David, I emailed you the fla. Appreciate any help ANYONE can give me. :)

Hi Rhiannon, I don't know how Dave set up the triggers for the script you're using but if he used an invisible button to make the menus drop then you just need to add a mask to the layer above the menu layer and position it so that only the bottom part of the menu shows through.

The mask will not only hide the part of the menus you don't want to see but it will also defeat the button actions for that part of the clip.

If the script uses hitTest instead then the mask will still hide the bits you don't want to see but the menus will drop even if you roll over the hidden parts (which might not be a problem anyway I guess).

Hi wangbar,

He used hitTest, which I don't really understand yet cos I'm new at Flash. :) Don't know how the mask will work though because of the way I've got that birdnav movie going across and dropping the menu buttons. There's a different section of that top banner logo that falls over each button.

I've got the birdnav loading into level 3 and then title text loading on top of that up in that white area.

Why did I have to do something so complicated for my first full Flash site. :)

Rhiannon

yeah you can use a mask on the individual menus Regards

Hi David,

Well, didn't use a mask (for some reason they still confuse me), but I did solve it another way. :) Now if only I can figure out a way to keep the upper part from triggering.

Any ideas David? Btw, the url for the site is Think it's coming along pretty good considering I'm just a lil newbie. :)

Rhiannon

that looks prety good, the only way i can think to stop triggering is mask Regards

Ok, I'm a little brain dead at this point, but how will masking stop the triggering? What exactly WOULD you mask? :) How exactly would you go about doing that? Wouldn't the script for the button change? And what does the variable "bar" represent in your sample fla?

Sorry about all the questions but I'm trying to understand what's going on here so I can learn. :)

Rhiannon

Ok, this is getting interesting. I figured out a way to stop the triggering (without a mask) but the menu doesn't drop down. It just fades in and out. Hmmmm.

Okay show off. :) You gonna show me how you did that or are just gonna let me go crazy for another 24+ hours? :)))

Rhiannon

LOL! Okay. I've got enough to keep me busy and SOMEwhat sane til Thursday! :) But after then, will you pleeeassee
