I have a JetDirect 500x that I cannot get to reset to factory defaults. It currently has an ip address of 0.0.0.0 so I cannot telnet to it by ip either. I want to telnet directly to it by using a com-to-rj45 cable like I use when I configure routers and such. Is this possible? What baud rate, data bits, etc. should I use if it is. I am using HyperTerminal.

Thanks

If it has an IP address of 0.0.0.0 you cannot connect to it. Check this thread for hints on resetting the JD box. thread697-567531 [wink]

The cold reboot won't work. I want to telnet to the rj45 port from com1 on a workstation so I can change the ip. I can do this with other network devices but, have no inkling if this is possible with the JetDirect. Any ideas on this?

If you can´t cold reset the card might be defect. The JD box will normally automatically obtain an IP addresss 1-2 mins. after a cold reset. If the IP stays at 0.0.0.0 there is definatly something wrong with the card and you can forget about doing a telnet to it. Try connecting the JD box to a DHCP server through RJ45 to see if it can pick up an IP. Another way is to try and configure the IP with an Arp command from a windows command prompt through RJ45 also. Here you lookup the card on the MAC address and assign the static IP the card is to get. If it still fails I doubt there´s any more you can really do. Good luck ! [wink]
