I have used Facebook on my computer many times but now I am unable to login to facebook. I go to facebook.com and then it comes up with an error saying unable to open file *php It then gives me an option to find a program to open a php file. I installed File Converter but it still doesn't give me an option to use that program to open the file. Very strange! Not sure how to get facebook to open on my computer now. Any ideas? Thank you.

What has been changed on the oomputer since the last successful login?

What led you to File Converter?

PHP is a web page format that helps deliver dynamic content You should not need to do anything to it, it opens seamlessly like a regular web page.

What browser are you using?
Why on earth did you think you needed a converter?
If you try a different browser does it work?

Can you connect via "Safe Mode with Networking? Can you connect if you test with another Windows user?

now as it has been pointed out, in that it has to do with webpages, and it worked before and now does not, I would definitely do a MALWARE SCAN...

run your AV software, after updating it...

then run MBAM and SuperAntiSpyware to cover your AV...

PS: the free / trial versions should do... ;-)

thank you for your replies. I am using IE 7 (i think - will have to check - don't think its 8) on the computer. Nothing altered on the PC - used FB 1/2 hour before and it was fine. I use McAfee Virus protection on the computer. Nothing showing up in that. I downloaded the file converter because I got a Microsoft flash screen appear saying that it was unable to open the php file and Microsoft recommends downloading one of the following files. (which was the file converter). I haven't yet cleaned out history and temp files will do that and see if that works. I haven't tried any other browser either. I can also try that. Will do a bit more investigating. Just didn't know where to start. Cheers

If you are using IE7, definitely consider at least upgrading to IE8. IE7 was much slower and is no longer supported by Microsoft. Even better, I would go with Firefox 4 or the latest Google Chrome. These newer browsers are speedier and generally more secure.
