Can somebody tell me how i can boot from the CD???
I always arrive in the firmware menu....
When must i press F1??

Ledam,

If you are at the RS/6000 logo's accross the screen. Press the F1 key if you have graphical terminal or just 1 if you have a tty, when the words start appearing at the very bottom of the screen left to right.

Or

When the system is up:

bootlist -m normal cd0 hdisk0

This will set the cdrom as the first boot device.

PSD is correct, I had this document though...that may help........?

General F80/H80/M80 Service Mode Information

Getting into service mode when you have a problem with an F80 is not the same as
it used to be. Here are a few things that may help you with your new machine.

In order to install the Model F80 from CD, you need an AIX 4.3.3 CD dated
04/2000 (will get it to boot, but not all the devices will come available.) You really
need 10/2000 (LCD4-0286-05) or later, because the system will not
boot all devices from older AIX 4.3.3 CDs,
Plus PTF IY09814 required filesets for any of the copper technology

One of the problems you have to check is what exactly is in the bootlist?
You may be surprised. Usually the CDROM is deleted as a security hazard, and
you will need to add it if you want to get your machine reloaded.

Here is what we suggest. You can try the 1 key or the 5 key to get
into SMS and you may be lucky. ( I do not believe that the f5 or f1 works any longer on the copper.......only the 5 or the 1 key)

WE have had several problems getting there for a reload and we have
come up with an alternative below, just in case.

If you can get into SMS:
After the System Management Services starts, the following screen displays:

Utilities
1 Password Utilities
2 Display Error Log
3 Remote Initial Program Load Setup
4 SCSI Utilities
5 Select Console
6 MultiBoot
7 Select Language
8 OK Prompt
.------.
|X=Exit|
------'
===> Select 6 MultiBoot

The reason you want to select 6 first is to select which devices
are bootable first. Select your boot devices and go for the reload.

If you cannot get into SMS, try the following:

Plug the machine in but do not press the Power On button:
The Display panel or Operator Panel for the F80 should say OK
Any Key on the keyboard should get you into the service processor menus.
REMEMBER you need an ascii console for this plugged into S1.
You will be presented with two options....General Menu or Privileged
Select Privileged.

Note: The information under the Service Processor
Firmware heading in the following Main Menu illustration is example
information only.

Select # 2 System Power Control Menu This menu is used to set power control options. Other menus that control boot options are available here:

Select # 7 Boot Mode Menu The Boot Mode Menu allows you to select a boot mode.

+----------------------------------------------------+

Select # 3 First ...the Service Mode Boot from Default List: and change to enabled.
Select # 1 Boot to SMS menu change to enable.
(You will have to return later on the next reboot and change to
disable or each time you boot you will go into SMS. But if you
cannot get the machine up into SMS, this is a sure way to do it.
Now select 98 to go back to Previous Menu.
(select 98 until you Return to System Power Control Menu)

WHEN you have returned to System Power Control Menu
Select...Option 4, Power on System. A Re boot will hopefully come into SMS menu...
(you should not have to hit any key since you set the boot into SMS menu.
REMEMBER that once you have installed the system, you can
come back and get into the menus and set the "Boot Into SMS
back to disabled" So you do not come back to this SMS on each
reboot.

Another Option
When you try to boot into service mode you will probably
need to press the 6 key when you see the word keyboard.
This will allow you then to chance to get in and select
the boot device, and alter the boot list.

If someone has selected a bootup password and you do
not know it, you need to get into service menus (as explained
above) and remove it.

You can try to power off the machine
and unplug the machine for a few minutes until the
LCD goes dead. Then hit any key on the keyboard and
pray that the service processor menu comes up. (Don't
hit the power button). Then you should be able
to delete the general access password and the power
on password and you should be able to move on.

Note: If you forget the password, and unplugging
does not work, you may have to remove the battery for
at least 30 seconds to disable the password. If this
doesn't work you will need to reload the firmware.

You can as a last resort, and I stress LAST
resort, select 8 from the keyboard as you are
coming up. It is the Firmware menu, and allows you
to type reset all which should set
the defaults back to the original.
