Hi,
Has anybody performed such a restore?
Attempts to restore from an F50 mksysb tape (single disk rootvg) to a p620 fail. The restore itself appears to work but we then get various failure codes (517) and 888 102 700 0c5 during the rebooting phase.

We suspect some sort of hardware mismatch / contraint but can't identify what it is.

do you have mirrored root drives on the 620?

are you booting from CD then doing a 'restore from system save'?

Alex

Hi,
The answers are no & yes

The 620 is a single disk rootvg and we are booting from CD before initiating the mksyb restore

517 error appears to be a problem with one of the filesystems. have you tried restoring the 620's mksysb?

Alex

yes, the 620 mksysb has been successfuly restored

Apperently there is something called the Common Diagnostics and Service Guide (never heard of it myself!)

It says 888 102 700 0c5

700 = Program Interrupt
0c5 = The dump program could not access the dump device.

Once again pointing to your disks / filesystems

Alex

I've seen that 888 code before, the short version of the meaning is that a software program has caused the kernel to crash.

The one time I saw that was on an early ML of AIX 4.3.3, there was a problem with AIO and Oracle.

Boot into maintenance mode, disable *everything* but the core OS stuff from starting, and boot the machine up. Then bring things up one at a time until you find the one that wrecks the machine.
