Hi Folks,

I keep getting a lot of error messages saying something like this

$ errpt
IDENTIFIER TIMESTAMP T C RESOURCE_NAME DESCRIPTION
369D049B 0704103702 I O SYSPFS UNABLE TO ALLOCATE SPACE IN FILE SYSTEM

There is a filesystem /opt for oracle system and datafiles. It went from 68% to 99% this week and I have tried to find the cause for it. I have cleared away all logs and dump and trace files.

Someone suggested rebooting the F50 to clear away unwanted background and dead processes. So I shutdown the listener, database and rebooted the box. It went down fine and started up fine but when it got to the last stage it hung. Now I cannot log on or connect to the box.

What shall I do please help me?

This server is part of our migration plan, we are moving from old J40 to F50 and so far it had been very difficult. And not to mention a very deep learning curve for me too.

Hope you can help me.

Thanking you all in advance.

Regards

Katherine

Hi Kathrine

What is your OSLEVEL 5.1
In AIX 5.1 is the /opt a default FS in AIX rootvg
Look a the LED Display to see a Errorcode in Bootprocess.

Hi levw,

The code I noticed was something like this 0581 or 0591, I just had a quick look so didn't take it in mind but what's odd is as it hung for about 20 mins and then I came down to my desk (server room is two floors above !) to look up books and web for any problem solving solutions.

Then logged on tek-tips, it is only when you asked me for code then I went up and it was fine !

But the question here is why did it hang for at least 20 mins.

I can connect to the box directly i.e. client/server connection but not from my PC via telnet?

Thanking you all in advance.

Regards

Katherine

Hi,

The oslevel is 4.3.3 and we have oracle database on this F50 box.

When I typed errpt upstairs it was something like errdemon logged off and user shutdown but no major error probs which is rather odd.

HI there,

I am smiling now .. basically found the problem and its all thanks to my Network Manager, basically both network cards were up and running, and both had two IP addresses connecting to it that explains why the box was getting confused. Or a headache more like.

Thank you all for your immmediate response.

Much appreciated

Katherine
