The F50 I got had a Matrox MGA PCI vodeo card in it. I remember someone telling me that it was not supported. Does anyone know of a regular PCI videocard taht I can use to get the system up and running?

As some of you may remember I was the n00b taht could not get this thing to work. Someone alst told me that I could use a hyperterm window on a PC to 'see' what is going on. What kind of cable do I need to do such a thing? I got a serial cable, female on both ends, and got nothing on all 3 ports. Does the cable have a name? Like if I were to aks a store if they had one?

Once again thanx for all the help!!!

You can use Hyperterm, but you'll need a null-modem cable or adapter. This is simply a cable that crosses over pin 2 to pin 3 (transmit to receive).

RadioShack makes a db25-db25 Null-modem adapter.

But the system I have has 3 9pin ports on the back, not 25pin. The video card that was in it has an IBM part number on it. And I can see what I think is some sort of BIOS screen. But when I try to load AIX 4.2.1 I see it starting the install but it stops at closeing stdin and stdout... And the last code on the LED is 0c31.

Thanx again

AIX is trying to tell you it doesn't know what the console is. Try using a higher end monitor to do your install.
I hope it works...
Unix was made by and for smart people.

A high end moniter? I've got a 19inch moniter going through my KVM switch. But should that matter?

Get a 25-pin to 9-pin adapter and plug your serial cable into the S1 port.

You can use a switch if 1024x768 is supported.
I hope it works...

Yes, 1024 is supported. I run 1280 on both my gamming maching and server (Win2k). I know I know... Like I said before I do see the RS/6000 screen with it checking all the devices. But once it goes to load it just crapps out at Closeing stdin and stdout... And if I let it sit ther long enough it will lock up my KVM switch.

Do you guys know where I can get like a reference guide for the F50? I picked up an AIX Administation giude but it does not have the error code info for the system.
