Hi, I'm trying to find any attach soft to mainframe from PC with W'XP, tried Extra6.5 trial version, but failed (no connection). Anybody has it running on W'XP or
what are other alternatives ? Probably there are other softs and without trial term ?

Thank

I'm working for a company that has recently begun converting to XP. We are using Attachmate and it's working OK. There are some things that don't work correctly. There are lots of set-up type issues.

They are installing the software via the Marimba product and the attachmate install has issues. We've just found out that the Attachmate install procedure (written by the Attachmate corp) may be responsible for the Windows Registry corruptions, and other issues. This company actually had to take a 2-3 week hiatus in the XP rollout due to the number of issues upgrading to XP.

Once it's up and running though it appears to work just fine.

Yarnseeker,

When you said that some things don't work correctly, an you be more specific?

We're having an issue with running the MyExtra 6.5 SP2 client on XP.

When users print, the app crashes with an error "Extra application error, ref mem 0x5f402181 @ location 0x000000004, location cannot be read".

Attachmate says that they don't support 6.5 on XP, and we should upgrade to v7.11, which is XP-certified.

Thanks,
Roland Thomas

Roland,

Your Print Screen problem is not necessarily related to Windows XP - this also happens on other OSs.

Try to use a generic Printer Driver from Windows or simply any other driver compatible with your printer.

In most cases, it's not necessary to have the exact driver for a specific model of, say HP LaserJet printers, many of them are in a product compatible family, like PCL3 or PCL4 or PostScript printers.

Thanks,
Matthy

Matthew,

We tried printing to different printer models and had the same effect.

We thought we had the problem solved because apparently Attachmate MyExtra 6.5 requires the DLC protocol installed on the workstation (Microsoft did not bundle it with XP like they did with W2K, 95 and 98).

However, manually installing the DLC protocol still didn't fix the problem.

We've decided to go ahead and upgrade the users to v7.11, which the vendor says has been certified for XP (and it comes with its DLC driver).

I'm getting the same error in NT4.0 TS SP6a/Citrix Xp FR1 SP1- "Extra application error, ref mem 0x5f402181 @ location 0x000000004, location cannot be read" in attachmate. Did the upgrade fix the issue?

Fixincitrix,

Yes, we have had no problems since we upgraded to v7.11, but this was for an XP build, not NT4. Does Attachmate still support NT? I know Microsoft is ending support for NT after 7/1/03.

I have tested Extra Personal Client 6.2/6.3/6.4/6.71 on XP Pro using Microsoft's DLC protocol driver from their HIS SNA Server package. I found it on the following server, you can download it from
The MyExtra! 7.11 contains DLC drivers that Attachmate rewrote for XP use. Since we don't have a maint. contract with them, it means we have to buy an upgrade.

I have not throughly tested everything with this setup, but at least the 3270 function works with TSO downloads and general Apps like IMS, CICS, NetView. TSO etc.
