Sorry for cross posting this to the Oracle 5,6,7 and 8 Threads, but the answer could come from either side.

I was just looking at what objects are owned by what users in my database. Under several accounts, there are a bunch of tables, etc, that were not created by that user. Most of these tables, have names that start with "EVT_", "SM" or "SMP_". I think these were created by Oracle 7's Enterprise Manager.

Since I am using Oracle 8.1.6 to manage these instances, do I still need all of these tables, indexes, etc?

Thanks in Advance... Terry M. Hoey

Ever notice that by the time that you realize that you ran a truncate script on the wrong instance, it is too late to stop it?

That's right, these tables were created as part of the process of logging on to Enterprise Manager. They contain the EM repository. As I understand it you are supposed to log on to the EM console using only one id. From there you can open individual tools using other ids. If you do this consistently the only id that will have the extra tables is the one that runs the EM console.

I'm afraid that I also am inconsistent in doing this, so I have multiple versions of these tables in different schemas. It should be harmless to drop them, but in practise I don't bother, since sooner or later I will manage to recreate them.

Sounds like I will remove them, since I don't use EM anymore. They are just a clutter now...

Thanks Karluk... Terry M. Hoey

If you use DBA Studio standalone in 8i you should be ok. If you connect to DBA Studio through a management server, however, I think there is a repository involved. Make sure that you don't inadvertently drop the 8i repository

I use it in stand alone. Couldn't figure out how to create a management server. Learning to be a DBA again through the old "Sink or Swim" school.

"Make sure that you don't inadvertently drop the 8i repository"... Well, I cleaned up one of the databases yesterday before I went home. I wonder if I can get into it again... We'll see...

Thanks again. Terry M. Hoey
