Hi. I am wondering if anyone can help me with the following scenario. My mate wants me to help him put a webcam feed on his site for his family's business. They want to know if they can put a webcam feed showing the beach their shop is near. Only problem is, the beach is about three quarters of a mile away. I notice that you can get webcams with built-in servers and wireless, but is there a way to overcome the distance it will be from a router (i'm guessing 3/4 of a mile is too far) and would we simply need to make a deal with somewhere nearby to use their connection? And does anyone have any suggestions on what to use to house a webcam in externally outside?

Thanks!

If you are using 802.11 wireless your concerns are transmit recieve abilities of both the camera and the access point. You must also take into account anything that might be in the way of direct line of site (limbs, leaves, structures, etc.).
what you would like to have is an unobstructed view between the two points and enough signal strengh for a strong, constant contection (if you have a signal problem you can use directional attenas and/or bridge to stronger ap/bridge devises together and the drop the camera into one via ethernet). If you use an access point configuration remember to secure your network.

What sort of business is this? I mean why not just take a 5 minute clip and host it on the website.

Silly question, how you going to power it?

Only the truly stupid believe they know everything.

Yes if you plan a continue staedy stream then i wonder how you gonna power it unless you intent to change batteries every a couple of hours or so.
