I've begun to have a problem with my external USB hard drive (Maxtor 200GB). When I reboot, it disappears. If I open the Safely Remove Hardware, it shows up as a generic volume. If I remove it from there and unplug/replug the drive, it shows up. I have to recreate the share on it and it works fine until reboot. I can think of no update/install that has happened to cause this. I've tried removing all of the USB Root Hubs from the device manager but that doesn't work. Running XP SP2.

When I reboot, it disappears

Disappears as in not visible in My Computer? Have you looked in Disk Management? Right click My Computer->Manage->Disk management and see if it is there, and its properties.

Have you tried plugging the drive into another PC?

It doesn't show up in disk management. Works fine on another PC. Seems to be some sort of registry issue. If I disconnect it before reboot (click on the safely remove hardware - not physically disconnect it) it comes up fine after reboot. Previously and on another PC, I don't have to disconnect it for it to show up on reboot.

Uninstall/Reinstall any software that came with it. If have you tried System Restore?
