Taking another look at a USB external case for a 3.5" IDE hard drive for backup purposes...

Many posters have mentioned the "Oxford" interface as being a good one to go for. Are there any others?

Also, having no experience of these I'm at a slight disadvantage in identifying which types of USB case actually use this "Oxford" interface.

Perhaps forum members could kindly point me to suitable U.K. available hardware please...

I, personally, would stick with oxford. I think there is even an updated, oxford2 now, but im not sure on that.
I would check out the ones i liked and contact their support department and ask them to check and see which ones were using the oxford chipset and which were using others and what chipsets they were. And ask them to give you any other info they feel is important.
That way you could get back to us and we can make sure its correct.
Also, i would suggest that you consider a combo usb\firewire case as it gives you the most options, you can use either usb or firewire to connect with instead of being limited with only one choice, could be important down the road.
Also, i would stick with USB2.0 and not settle for usb1.0 or usb 1.1.
It could be that there are some firewire cases out there with the new firewire specs but im not sure on the new specs or what its called. If i recall correctly, the new firewire specs call for 800 mbs per minute as opposed to the old, standard of 400 mbs.

Good advice + great people = tek-tips

Thanks for that - I'll make a few enquiries...
