External USB drive compatibility

Does anyone know of any external USB hard drives (500GB ideally) that are actually supported by the vendor on Windows 2003? From the ones I've checked so far none seem to state Windows 2003 and I've been told by a reseller I'd need to buy a NAS device rather than external USB drive. However I know plenty of people do use them (although a lot seem to get issues judging by posts) but I really need something that's guaranteed to work rather than a hope and see as previously I tried an old USB 1.1 drive on a Windows 2003 server and it hung it (I'm looking for an up-to-date USB 2 drive now though...).

I've used the western digital My Book without any problems

I've been using a Lacie d2 Big Disk Extreme 500GB USB 2.0 drive on my Win2003 file/print server for some time now. Read/write locally/remotely. Never a problem yet.

USB 1.1 is terribly slow compated to USB 2.0
FireWire is even faster than USB 2.0. Don't go overboard saving money on an enterprise business backup solution... what works at home may not be appropriate for a business.
