Hi, I am trying to create an external trust bewteen domain A and domain B. They are both in separate forests and located at different sites. There is a VPN tunnel connection between the two forests. I have a user in domain A and they want to join the domain in domain B. How would I go about doing this? I set the user in Domain A to use the DNS Server of Domain B, but I can still only ping IP addresses on not hostnames. What am I missing here?

Thanks much!

but I can still only ping IP addresses [red]on not [/red]hostnames. What am I missing here?

A few words in that sentence I think.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Sorry, I mean I'm not able to ping hostnames. But I am able to ping IP addresses in domain B.

Did you set the DNS server from the trusted domain as a secondary for each of the DCs?

For example:

DC1 (domain A) IP = 192.168.0.2
DC2 (domain B) IP = 10.0.16.2

Configure DC1 with DNS servers:
Primary: 192.168.0.2
Secondary: 10.0.16.2

Configure DC2 with DNS servers:
Primary: 10.0.16.2
Secondary: 192.168.0.2

I hope you find this post helpful.

Regards,

Mark
