external speakerphone for 7444 (S202)

I'm trying to add an S202A speakerphone to a 7444. Speaker powers up via existing power supply but the only thing I can do with it is change level on volume. No sound from speaker, speakerphone light will not come on when button pressed, Are they compatible or do I need additional, different equipment?

Do you have the proper BLUE ended cable between the seaker and the phone? It's not a regular patch cord.

Yes, It's the 18 inch blue end cable with the notch on the side.
The speaker goes through the audio sequence when powered up. Is it possible I have to disable the speakerphone capability of the 7444D some how?
