Having the same issue on 2 (non-networked) different systems. One is on CM 7.1 with AAM 7.1. The other is 5.2.1 on CMM.

All messages, whether left from another extension on the switch or from outside, are identified as internal. The message header says "voice call from extension XXX-XXX-XXXX."

I've made sure extension length and range is set correctly.

I also noticed that if I create a VDN and vector, and then a mailbox with the VDN number, all messages are identified as external, even if the message was left from another extension on the switch.

Not really sure where to go from here. I've spent a good amount of time fiddling with ARS, and both public and private unknown numbering. No luck.

I'd want to see what your "sites" in AAM say - internal/external pilot numbers, mailbox lengths, all that stuff.

What's different about the VDN?
What if you have a VDN/vector with "messaging split 99 for extension 1234"? presuming h99 is voicemail and 1234 is a mailbox

Sorry for the delayed reply, my focus got rapidly turned towards supporting teleworking.

I can't get to the newer CM with AAM right now. I do have access to the 5.2.1 system on CMM.

I've gone over everything I can think of to get CMM to properly identify calls as external. Extension length is (correctly) set as 4. My extension range in CMM is properly defined. I've gone through the configuration guide several times and made sure every setting in my signaling group, trunk group, system-parameters features, system-parameters coverage, and both public and private numbering are correct. I've flipped "unknown numbers considered internal" option on page 8 of system-parameters features on and off to no avail. I've also played with the incoming numbering format in the trunk group settings for the incoming PRI. No change at all. CMM still identifies every call as internal.

What exactly causes CMM to determine whether a call is internal or not? Is in the switch, or CMM making this determination?

In the site setup do you have different numbers for external and internal ?
