I have a number of recent sony laptops and seem to be having a problem with external keyboards being recognized. I use a docking station with one, and I cant seem to get the external keyboard to work.

I am looking for some kind of problem with windows (rather than a problem with sony's hardware) at this point. No matter where I connect the keyboard (directly to usb on laptop, or to docking station) they keyboard will not work. I have tried many keyboards, both ps2 and usb, and none work.

Any ideas on what my next step should be? I can see the keyboard in the device manager, it just seems I cant turn it on....

Have you tried it outside of windows? E.G. BIOS or booting to a bootdisk?

Any Bios update available from Sony? Have you tried setting the Bios to the Safe Default settings and then saving and exiting, followed by repeating the process to then enable all things USB in the Bios?

What do Sony Support suggest?

Any clues from this thread?

What XP version? My new desktop with XP64 refused to recognize a PS2 keyboard but works very well with a wireless (USB driven) model. You might try connecting a usb mouse and board.
