my firm uses 800 # for client hotlines. I thought they all terminated on POTS lines which were then programmed as PVR keys but i've since discovered that some of the 800 #s somehow point to system DNs (NOT DIDs). how is this possible? and is there an advantage to using PVR keys? if i use PVR i have to have a POTS line first, right? thank you.

800 Pots don't need to be PVR.

Print your trunk TNB and you will see ATDN and the DN where it's going.

i already found it. My question is, is there an advantage to having the 800 # first point to a POTS line (which, I assume, HAS to be programmed as PVR)? if it's an 800 #, how does it get to an SCR key? i am 100% confused.

okay, here's the story. 800 # points to POTS line 212-697-9590. whether i call the 800 or POTS # i go to the same attorney in my office whose job it is to monitor this hotline. She has an SCR 2999 upon which this 800/and-or POTS line comes in on. I called the 800 # and traced her TN and got the TN the call came in on and printed it and, voila, got this:

TN 020 0 02 03
TYPE COT
CDEN 8D
CUST 0
XTRK XUT
TIMP 600
BIMP 3COM
NCOS 0
RTMB 5 1
ATDN 2999
SIGL LOP
SUPN YES
STYP PIP
CLS UNR DTN WTA LPR APN THFD
P10 NTC LOL
TKID
DATE 30 JUL 1996

this is great, except I STILL DON"T UNDERSTAND WHERE THE POTS LINE TELEPHONE NUMBER IS!! How do i find that? if i didn't have it written down and i wanted to know where that 800 # points, how do i find that??

Back in the good old days 800 #'s where called WATS lines and were programmed on trunk cards as WATS and if you wanted it on a PVR KEY, the trunk had to be in route 31.
it doesn't have to be a PVR KEY it can be a regular DN, on the trunk TN ATDN just put the DN you want it to go to. You need to keep your own records as you can have your LD provider send it to a COT or a DID trunk. The POTS telephone number belongs to the local telephone company.
In some locations you can put your buttset on the trunk and dial a phone with caller ID.
