external HDD larger than 128 Gb

Hi all,

I'm choosing a HDD for one of my relatives... This relative has a laptop compaq presario 716EA and a Phoenix bios which I don't have all the specifications about yet... I'v just this (truncated by msn messenger, I didn't notice at the time) :

My question is mutliple. Do you think that the fact to install an external drive (connected with firewire port) requires also that the bios supports the LBA mode ? Or the IDE controller of the external case takes charge of it ?

If it's the case, do you think that the phoenix Bios detailed above (partially) supports this mode ? If you don't know, could you tell me where I can find this information ? I've been on the Phoenix web site nut I couldn't find anything about that ...
