External HD "Lost Format"???

I was copying files to my Seagate external HD and the power went out. Now XP says that the drive is not formatted and asks if I want to reformat the drive. This drive has a TON of picture and music files on it that I cannot lose. Is there any way to recover these files or the drive without reformatting?

I would be greatly appreciative of any help you can provide!
