External HD - can't find or update drivers - HELP !!! 1

Since Windows did latest update, seems it's interferred with my External HD (Medion 2 Ggh - Cypress AT2LP RC 42)
Will not let me open the Ext HD. Tells me can't find drivers, and all efforts to locate appropriate drivers so far "no go". I know several others have had this problem too, in an earlier post, but no recent answers.
Have any of you solved this "disappearing" driver problem?
Worst case scenario - Is there any way all the data on the HD can be retrieved? Desperately require answers.

For "Worst case scenario", remove hard disk from its external enclosure and attach directly to suitable interface on a desktop or minitower computer. Boot up machine on its normal OS and then hopefully you'll be able to copy across material from the other HDD.
