I'm looking for an external hard drive or array. I would like to connect it to a Linux via Firewire or eSATA. It seems that some of these only want to work with Windows or Macs. What ones work with Linux? We are looking at 2 TB or 3 TB--the size doesn't leave us with many options.

actually it does... have you considered NAS as a solution, workds like a charm with Linux due to the NFS filesystem and SMB for Windows clients...

e.g.
or build your own: regular hardware, and a couple of SATA RAID Cards, then throw in a Gbit network card (Intel 100/1000), either buy an Open-E USB stick, or check out the FreeNAS software.
