external hard drive start up

Father of three-year-old unused BUSSLINK 40GB peripheral drive has lost the instruction sheet. While unit is installed and MY Computer displays the E:drive icon, 80-year-old father doen't have the memory of what to do next. Just to cut and paste to mirror the C: to the E: -- simply sounds dangerously too easy. Please folks.
