External Hard Drive, Delayed Write Failed, error message

I recently bought a 500 gig hard drive and purchased an external USB enclosure to but it in. Everything works fine but when I try to copy large files it give me an error message.

windows was unable to save all the data for the file.

I have Googled this issue and it seems there's quite a few people with the same issue and nobody knows why this is happening or what to do about it. I've tried everything that people have suggested and nothing seems to work. Sometimes it copies ok and then the next time around i get the same error message. Just wondering if it's a USB issue or if it's my Brand/Model of Hard Drive Enclosure. Because I know it's not the hard drive because if I stick that directly into my computer via SATA I have no problems.

I had the same problem with my Maxtor OneTouch II 300 GB about a year ago. In my case the problem was windows xp (which is most likely the problem in your case as well).

I was adviced to search support forums at the manufacturers web site and find a hotfix for it. However, this problem disappeard when I got my new computer.

I would search support forums for a hotfix, and also contact Microsoft.

As far as I know this problem is only related to USB2, so you might want to use firewire instead (if available).
