Hello everyone,

I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on changing the external dial digit from 9 to 8 on our phone systems. I have done some reading on the forums and a few other resources to try and address an issue at the hospital where I work. First a little background on myself. I have been in the IT world for about 25 years with lots of Avaya experience. A small amount of Cisco phone experience and a very small amount of basic Mitel admin experience. The hospital has recently been having some issues with the fax machines and some extension dialing 911 and triggering visits from the local police departments as a result. What seems to be happening is the former IT manager decided to use 9 as a pre dial to get out of our system. He also programmed all the fax machine to pre dial 9 and 1 for all faxes. As you can guess with any long distance calls/faxes this was causing issues.

I have gone in and added a 911* entry to the speed dial which will now kill any calls that dial 911 and any further digits but will allow the 911 calls to go through.

What I am looking to do at this point is configure a dual setup until we can get the staff educated properly and have the number 8 as well as the number 9 as predial to allow external access. Is this supported in the Mitel OS? How complicated is it to setup and any direction as to how to do this would be MUCH appreciated if such a setup is possible.

Thanks in advance.

What Mitel system do you have?

MiVoice Business?
MiVoice Office250?
MiVoice Office400?

Duplicate every entry in your ARS Digit Dialled form with a leading 8 instead of 9 with the exception of the ones you do not want to dial with an 8

Then remove the ones with leading digit 9 that you no longer want to work.

What's most important is that you realise ... There is no spoon.

Like kwbMitel says you need to duplicate the existing setup. I would export the current ars digits dialed, and a new row in front of the digits add a character to all strings, save as new csv. Edit the new in a word processor and replace all character , current leading digit with an 8 and save. You may have to verify the header part to remove the added cell and re save. You should then be able to upload. If good make 6 return dial tone like 9 likely does in the leading digit form.

Thanks everyone for the direction. I have gone through and done as indicated and it seems to be working. We will give the staff an email blast and ask them to start using the 8 for external and see if we come up with any glitches. Keep your fingers crossed for me [bigsmile]
