Dear all,

I need to install BCM400 with IP phones, and we have only 1 VLAN. I have done the setup as per the documentation and I made the BCM as RelayAgent for the Customer DHCP. But when i reboot the IP phone, Its gettig stuck in starting DHCP.

Any Idea whats need to be done in the DHCP server and the BCM.

you should set a static ip on that set, boot it up and then re-enable dhcp on that set. this should work

Dear Steeef,

The site is very big place and I can't run for each and every phone to give a static IP.
I want to find an alternative solution which is the DHCP AgentRelay option. But unfortunately it dose not work and I need it to work to make my life easy.

If you have one VLAN, and there is already DHCP on that VLAN, you don't need a relay agent. The DHCP relay agent is only used when the BCM is being used as a router.

If you have DHCP already, you need to enter DHCP option 128 in your DHCP server. The syntax for that is:

Nortel-i2004-A,X.X.X.X:7000,1,1;X.X.X.X:7000,1,1.

X.X.X.X is the IP of your BCM.

If there is no DHCP at that site, you can configure the DHCP server on the BCM to hand out addresses as well. Most likely the issue is that the phone is looking for full DHCP and it isn't finding it.

You can also do partial DHCP, but you will need to manually enter the S1/S2 addresses into each phone.

Dear,

First Thanks for your valuable support.

Today I have tried the option 128 in the DHCP server but also it dose not work. Just I'm wondering what will be the configuration in the DHCP server and the scope option. Also I need to know what exactly the Data Type will be, and It is mandatory to enable the BOOTP in the DHCP Scope or not.

The "type" should be a string value. Be sure that you enter the data as typed - the string is case sensitive. Also, don't forget the period after the last :7000,1,1.

That's all there is to it.
