I would suggest staying away from SQL Query Designer, it's rumopred to be a dying breed.
Same thing applies to ODBC, though to a lesser degree in my mind, MS no longer supports it.
I'd just bite the bullet and set up OLE DB connections for these, and use Views or SQL.
