how do i program external autodial on a atl telephone.

There is a little dipswitch on the left side of the phone. One way has the letter T, the other way has the letter P engraved. Move it towards the letter P for programming mode (T is for Test mode). Touch the button you wish to program. Dial *22 + the phone number you wish to autodial (make sure to include 9 for ARS access if appropriate). When done move the switch back to the center. From SPM, the programming is done exactly like a MLX or TDL set.

Sorry... it's *21 not *22 for the outside autodial code. I got a little punchy with my typing.
