Is there anyway to get a name to display, instead of the number, when programming an external autodial button on an IP phone? Specifically the expansion module for a 1230 phone.
My BCM50 rls 6 does allow me to enter a name for my external autodial. I have an external paging controller, and you dial the full 10 digits to dial into it, and I've programmed the button to simply say Page and dial the 10 digits. Feature *1
Gordon, is this new on 6.0 because 5.0 doesn't allow me to enter a name under an external autodial button unless maybe you created a system speed dial with name display?
Yes, this must be something new.....I just tried it out on my 1140E.
I pressed Feature*1
I then pressed the button to be used as an Autodial button
The phone then prompts me by saying "Program and OK"
I enter the number and press OK
The display then prompts me to enter a Name
I enter the name and press OK and the Autodial name appears on my screen.
There are a lot of little upgrades like this on RLS6....but try it out again on your system and see if it works.
I know I am pretty sad that the BCM is on its way out. Its a great system with the capabilities of the old Norstar bridging the gap to the CS1000/2100.
In addition to the Autodial feature....I personally think these features should have been added:
-3rd party SIP Phones
-8 distinctive CS1000 styled ring tones/call buzz for call waiting
-Name and Number CLID display on the 1140/1120E phones....the displays are big enough for it!
-internal calling "hold music"
-elimination of "Your number" when you dial your own number....On the CS series, you can dial your own number and have the phone buzz back at you....say you want to test the line out, or adjust the buzz volume, this can be helpful.
