I recently took over a phone system at a University. I don't have much experience in phone systems but I'm learning pretty fast.

Out Registrar's office has 5 phones. 4x 2008 and 1x 3903.

3 of the 2008 phones have the DN of the other 2008 as a button on them. They had it set this way so that the people manning those phones could see if the head Registrar was on the phone. The only problem is that they can see the caller ID of the calls coming in on that DN.

Is there a setup to give them they ability to see whether or not the line is busy but not see caller ID of incoming calls?

Thanks in advance.

Not exactly, but with the CLS prompt, You could prevent the sets from seeing ANY calling number and still see names, not very practical.

CNDA (CNDD) Allow (deny) user names to be displayed on this phone.
DNDA (DNDD) Allow (deny) display on this phone of the originally dialed phone’s name on redirected calls.
NAMA (NAMD) Allow (deny) digit display on the far end.
DDGA (DDGD) Allow (deny) calling number and name per-call blocking.
CLBA (CLBD) Allow (deny) calling number and name per-call blocking

The boss-secretary function does something similar. You can program a BFS key at the "secretary" phone pointing to boss' phone TN. This way that key will show when the pointed phone is busy, the drawback is that with that same key said phone can redirect All Calls from the boss phone to itself, and only one phone can be set up to "supervise" the registrar's phone. (one phone can have several "secretaries" but a phone can have only one "boss").
Hope this helps.

Change the CLS on the 3 phones from TDD to ADD.
Then they will only see the CLID for calls ringing on key 0.

You can also make them BFS keys so it is like a Busy Lamp Indicator only,

TDD to ADD did the trick. BFS would be perfect if they didn't have multiple extensions added on the 3903.
