Hi,
I am VERY new at Merlin Legend.. so you'll have to forgive me right from the start.
I inherited the Merlin Legend from the network admin who left, and I really didnt have to mess with it until now. We are adding some new people to the office, and the phone jacks are there and everything seems to be connected properly, but if I plug it into a phone.. there's no dialtone. It's not a data line either (I checked it). I'm guessing that I have to go to the admin in Merlin in order to turn something on? I have NO idea, and any help would be greatly appreciated.

First look at the jack where you want to plug in the phone, if done correctly, there should be a number or other type of identification. Next, go in to where your Merlin system is located and find the corresponding number or identifier. Finally, you will have to make a connection between this cable and the appropriate port on a Merlin module, either with a patch cord or with jumpers (depending on how your system was wired and the type of module you are using). If your station cables terminate in a 'sub-house' closet (a location other than the one where your Merlin is located) it can become very difficult to explain getting dialtone from one end to the other and you would be better off following crsob's advise.

For additional information, it would be helpful if you would supply the version and type of equipment you are dealing with.

I may end up having to bring in a techie only for the reason that yes, they should be clearly marked with a number, however they arent. The former network guy that wired all of this together.. didnt label a single line (how he was able to keep up maintence on this.. i'll never know). If you saw this closet, you'd cry. It's a spaghetti of cat-5s. Nothing is clearly marked and it's not properly secured so theres roaming cables.. and theres no telling whats plugged in and what's not.
Heck, sometimes I even cry looking at it.
Well I'm going to see how far I can go without the tech guy, but I just may hire one to come out here..
We have Merlin Legend 3.0

By the way, thank you for your help and at least making this pretty clear to me on exactly what I should do because I was definately stumped. :)

Sounds as if you were left with quite a nightmare; your best bet would be to bring in a pro, if for nothing else than to tone, mark and document your location for your future use...good luck.
