Extensions beginning 9

Having established that I have a Nortel Norstar ICS of some descriptiont, perhaps someone can help with something...

Our extension numbers are still set up from whoever had the system before us, beginning 74 (i.e. 741, 742, 743, etc). Is it possible to change our internal extension numbers so they begin with 9? Obviously this causes issues as 9 is required for an external line, and as such the system programming doesn't allow 9 as the first digit.

My question is, can I change the number required for an outside line to 99 (double nine), or some other number. And if so, can I then have internal extension numbers beginning 9?

The '9-for-an-outside-line' thing isn't realy required as far as we're concerned as all phones have 2 buttons assigned for outside lines anyway.

yes you can reset your extension numbers and you can use almost any number for the access code. one way to renumber is to pull the power plug, then after you power it up again, within 15 minutes do Feature**startup and during that process, tell the system what number you want the ext. numbers to start with. This wipes out all programming if done correctly. Or. go into programming under System Programming/feature settings/change dn's and change the ext. number one at a time. Under the same System Programming/Acess codes you can designate any number, not being used somewhere in the system, as an access code. Double digits casn used for access codes, but it might create confusion, especially when you use centrex lines where a 9 is needed to access the lines on top of the access code.
