Extension temporarily not in use

What is the best way to deal with an extension when an employee leaves and we don't want that extenstion to ring or accumulate any voice mail until a new employee starts.


I was going to delete the mailbox and delete the entry in the system directory, but I think that if someone knows the extension they could still dial it and the phone would ring.

Renumber it
Sys Prog > Exit (or start) > system Renumbering > Single >Extensions > enter old / new. Renumber back when the new guy comes in.

I ended up doing the renumber thing. That worked better for us in that the phone can still be used for outgoing calls if someone happens to be in that office.
