i have an extension that used as our main fron desk ddi
but this is just an extension without a vector or vdn

my question is can i put annoucements eg ."" welcome to "" on extensions or does it have to be a vdn via a vector only ?

can someone please confirm

Hi

I'm not sure but I think that you need to use a vector to specify the next steps after the announcement is recorded

You cannot put announcements onto an extension. Using a vector is the best way. If you only wanted a single announcement to play and dont have the ACD software enabled on your switch then you could put the extension in a hunt group and point the incoming call at the hunt group, then on the second page of the hunt group you can have a delay announcement which will play after a call has been ringing at the hunt group for a while, this may help out if you can reduce the ring time sufficiently

Depends on your system:

With CM, to do that you'll need an announcement board (virtual or physical) and basic vectoring turned on if you wanted to use VDN/Vector. You could also do it with an Auto-Attendant or Caller-App in your voicemail system... I prefer option 1 if you have the right pieces. Option 2, voicemail, requires a little more thought, especially if you have Modular Messaging.

Thanks,
