hi,

can someone please tell me how to extend a a striped logical volume on to specific hdisks. at the moment, lslv -m shows -

LP PP1 PV1 PP2 PV2 PP3 PV3
0001 0161 hdisk4 0161 hdisk7
0002 0212 hdisk6 0212 hdisk3
0003 0191 hdisk2 0191 hdisk5

but if i try to extend the lv on to the volumes detailed above, i get '0516-1040 extendlv: Physical volumes cannot be specified when extending the striped logical volume.'

so i then leave the pv's blank in the smit panel and i end up with an allocation of

LP PP1 PV1 PP2 PV2 PP3 PV3
0001 0161 hdisk4 0161 hdisk7
0002 0212 hdisk6 0212 hdisk3
0003 0191 hdisk2 0191 hdisk5
0004 0218 hdisk4 0214 hdisk6
0005 0213 hdisk6 0193 hdisk2
0006 0192 hdisk2 0215 hdisk6

so then if hdisk6 failed, i would end up havin 2 of the 3 stripe sets on the same physical volume (hdisk2) for LP's 4,5,6.

thanks alot...........gary

The problem is: You can't add a physical disk to a striped LV, because this would mean to change the striping distribution. You would have a part of data striped along 2 disks and a part of data striped along 3 disks.
This would require something like an allocation map to follow each time you have to write something in the LV .... is this chunck of data striped on 2 or 3 disks?
The only thing you can do is ... allocate a "scratch non striped LV onto the 3rd disk", copy the data of the striped LV to this ... deallocate the striped LV, reallocate it onto 3 disks ... and copy back the data.
... This ... obviously ... if you have enough space into the 3rd disk

hi ,

when you create your striped lv , it has to be set as super strict so that each PP is on its own disk
so simply if you have enough space all you do is extend the
filesystem it should extend the lv with each extent on different disk
