Extending the dropdown or select default size

Anyone!
I desperately need to extend the length of a dropdown or
select box. I would prefer to avoid ASP/CFM/Javascript and
just use HTML and/or CSS if at all possible.

Netscape works by default but IE (pre 6) limits it to just
11 options. 11 is just not enough!!
Any ideas?
