Hi,

The root partition is full. Is there a way to increase the size of the partition without
reinstalling the OS? Thanks in advance.

hi
you can use "smit fs" to extend the size of / filesystem.
Aix supports extending the filesystem sizes while they are in use.
Also you can remove or null the following files to make room in / filesystem.
smit.script
smit.log
.sh_history
IF required to extend filesystem size pls check whether you have enough space in
rootvg.
you can find out this by entering:
lsvg rootvg command.

This is what you need to do if you cannot make space.

1) Type: lsvg rootvg

This will bring up a list of free pp's. Check to see how many you have. The pp's show how many free blocks available you have to add to the volume.

2). Type: chfs -a size=+'how many blocks' /volume

i.e to add 25mb extra space to home volume type:
chfs -a size=+ 50000 /home

Beware once you have added this you cannot reclaim it back.

Hope this helps ?

Before doing all of that, I would check the size of your
/etc/security/failedlogin file. Chances are it has never been cleaned.
You can wipe it by:
cd /etc/security/failedlogin
> failedlogin

hi ,
u can extend the size of any lv while it is online using smit chfs or chfs -a size=+<additional blocks> /test.

if u go for smit first it will show u the current no of 512 blocks used by the system . just change that no. to no.u want and enter. try it and let me know. its possible for ordinary jfs but for root i hav not yet tried.

u must be root to do this.

on the command line -

chfs -a size=+ <size> /

ensure there is enough space in rootvg

lsvg rootvg

Hi,

Yes you can extend the logical volume. First try to run the "skulker" command w/c delete unnecessary files on the system.
