If I had a PRI that was terminated by the LEC in city A could I extend over a point to point T1 to my PBX in city B with out any additional equipment?

In other words, could I patch cable between the 2 smart jacks of the PRI and PtP in city A and have the PRI come out the other end in City B?

TIA

wouldn't it be cheaper and better to get a new PRI and port the numbers over?
What I try to say is I don't know and would stay away from it but I doubt that it would work.

Even though the Telco might not like it, yes you can. You would use a crossover patch cord at the NIUs from one DS1 to the other. Works great, when I have used this method in the past to temporarily extend a DS1 to another location ahead of moving or coordinating a large move and needed things "linked" together.

One caveat is, if you have a problem you need to understand the troubleshooting techniques needed to find the problem if one of the DS1s has an issue.

Thanks for the replies, I couldn't think of a reason why it shouldn't work.
The reason I'm not putting in new PRI in city B and porting numbers is because the PRI is facilities based and LEC will not port number from one CO to the other.

I ran into a similar problem years ago in Las Vegas, where Centel would not haul analogue DID trunks between COs unless you had them ride a DS1. Then you could haul them anywhere. So I ordered a DS1 and put the trunks on the DS1, which actually worked out better.

Did you try to move the DS1 to the other location, or did the LEC not have a tariff provision for that arrangement? What LEC is providing service?

Another issue is when it goes down, you wont know who to call (the did provider or tie provider) and you wont have csu's for YOU to look at or for the LEC's to loop.

I would recommend a small cheap DACS. You can get an Adtran Atlas 800 with 2 PRI/T1 ports built in for $300 on ebay with ethernet management. This would give you csu's to loop and an ethernet/telnet management point for you to look in and see which of the 2 links is having the issue, alarms, performance, etc.. Don't just use a patch cord creating an unmanaged connection.

One caveat might be the 911 calls if they go out over the PRI. The PSAP might see the address of the original location which could leave someone open to HUGE legal issues and liabilities.
