any suggestions for a repeater or some kind of booster to increase distance on a network connection. Trying to connect two buildings just over 330' approx. I do have an IDF where I can install a device about midway. Any one have any suggestions to keep the full 100mb over copper or am i looking at 5-10-15mb as I have seen on some of the devices out there. Customer doesn't want wireless bridge.

Thanks!!

Dear Vega,
spec: 2 buildings 330+ feet apart with IDF midway 100 mbps
assume: possible water in conduit between buildings

quick thought before bed:
1. Best
-switch in IDF and use waterblock CAT5e cable
-possible demarc to convert to plenum building cable
-consider lightning protection
2. Okay
-hub in IDF and use PVC CAT5e cable (warranty on cable ??)
-possible demarc if plenum in building??
3. Works
-Contiguous run of CAT6 or better PVC cable (warranty??)
-possible demarc to convert to inner building cable
-You will be over 100 meters and will experience slower network speeds & possible system problems.
-Since it will fail the CAT5e test, the customer must buy off on Rube Goldberg.

I would regard 50 nm multimode fiber as a 'best' solution, it is rated to 2 km at 10 and 100 meg and 550 meters at 1 gig. It has good electrical characteristics and will not need a powered intermediate hop

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

I agree with jimbo Best would certainly be fiber

you can get media converters to come off your existing switch (if it dosen't have fiber capablity)

you can get the fiber in custom lenghts with the connectors allready on and tested.

with fiber no need to worry about lightning either
