I am trying to expand a partion on an array, it simply will not do it and I realize because it is the os partition. The only thing I can do is create a new drive and allocate the space to it. What would be the ideal or optimal way to set up the drives. I thought that it would be optimal to set up one drive. I suppose that I would not be able to extend the current drive, I changed it to dynamic but when I try to extend it if get the following.

The selected volume is a system or boot disk or was created on a basic disk in an earlier version of Windows and cannot be extended.

Could someone provide me some counsel on this. I rarely perform tasks like this and need to learn what is the most optimal.

You can try Diskpart,
but being the OS drive, I have found that it works sometimes and most of the time it doesn't. You may need to take an image of the OS partition. Then reconfigure your RAID Array to proper standards/configuration. Create your new partition and drop the image back down.

Diskpart did not work either. How would one go about creating an image and putting it back down? What would I use?

I use Acronis for Server. You can build a recovery CD, boot to it, and take a nice image of your server. Reverse with same CD and it also will modify the image to the new Partition space.
