Hi Guys,

Currently, my system will have messages, messages.0 to messages.3. How could I extend the history of the /var/adm/messages or no auto recycling ?

Thanks for any advise in advance.

Cheers,
DT

As [tt]root[/tt], do a "[tt]crontab -l[/tt]". One of the cron jobs is [tt]/usr/lib/newsyslog[/tt]. This is the script that rolls [tt]/var/adm/messages[/tt]. It's a pretty simple script so it should be easy to modify for your needs.

The only caveat is that it is a Sun supplied script, so any changes could be overwritted with a future patch or upgrade.

not with an upgrade, in Solaris 9 and above they replaced newsyslog by a generic mechanism "logadm"
