I think I've read somewhere about an extention DS30 fibre cable.... anyone know whether it is a single mode or multi mode fibre? Perhaps I can splice my own (we do some of this but not lots yet). Don't know if the ends are Nortel propietory or generic. Anyone?

The product is made by MCK and is a modular extender. It comes in two parts, the first part connects to the expansion card via the DS30 fiber cable then multi-mode fiber is run across the distance (up to 1.9 miles) then the second part of the unit connects via ds30 fiber to the stn or trunk mod.

You can use single mode fiber across the distance if you have converters at either end. So it would look something like this:

module-ds30-extender unit-multimode-converter-single mode-converter-multimode-extender unit-ds30-module.

Oh and the connectors are ST type. MRoberts

Thanks MR.
Knew I'ld read something on it but couldn't remember where.

Arr, if you get and use the MCK Mod extenders, I recommend using a UPS on both ends. It's a good product.
