An MLX 16DP on a Legend has developed a new habit of disconecting. The user described it as "clicking". The phone completely shuts off, then back on. The good news of this is it holds the call or if programming remains in programming mode.

I recently moved the phone and it's patch cord to a new location. The phone that was at the new location did not display this problem, nor did this phone in it's origional location.

I have replaced the phone, and the cable from the wall jack to the phone.

Any suggestions?

I suggest the MLX Self Test.

Touch Intercom (or System Access)

Turn on the speaker.

Dial *00

This will turn on all lights on the set, and cause it to make a TERRIBLE SOUND.

But that's OK.

(If you touch a button, the bad sound will go away, and the light will change on that button)

Now, TURN THE VOLUME ALL THE WAY UP.

If you hear CLICKING and/or POPPING, that means you have FAULTY WIRING (BAD CONNECTIONS)

To get out of test mode, just turn off the speaker.

You have several points of failure.
1) Handset cord
2) Patch (line) cord
3) Handset
3) Phone

Put the phone back in its original configuration, and prove the failure.
Replace with known good components in the above order until failure is isolated.
Throw away everything that fails except the phone which shuld then be marked as bad, and fixed when you have a half dozen or so.

merlinman, I don't understand the intercom or system access part. Is that at the phone itself or on the switch?

Pepprez, I am thinking it's a line problem b/c an identical phone in that jack does the same thing.

Ah HAA. Plug the same line cord, same phone into the port straight off the Legend card, and see if it's still happening. If so, go to maintenance>port>extension, then busy it out, then release it.
If it still fails busy out and release the MLX card where the phone lives.
If it still fails, restart the system and test again.
If it still fails you're probably looking at a bad card.

Intercom and/or System Access is the button you would press to make an INTERNAL CALL from one extension to another.

They are usually just above and to the left of the:

/\ Volume \/

control.

Merlinman, ...duhh I don't se System Access very frequently just SA.

It is the port, I moved my user to another port and the problem went away.

Thanks all.

I fully understand.

Any more, when I set up a system, I label the SA buttons INTERCOM.

Users do not understand SA or SYSTEM ACCESS, and I got tired of explaining what "SA" meant when I was training.

Thus, I now call them INTERCOM.

Users all know what intercom means.

AND, if I don't put DESI's on, they don't even know that....
