Dumb question of the day; Expression builder no longer displays all the Functions and Operators in their trees. Selecting fields from the field tree does not put them in the {}. I've tried both creating a new report and using and existing one but neither gives me a full tree. I'm assuming that it is something simple like a default setting. Would someone please tell me what I've missed!

Thanks,

Never heard of a setting that does that, but please post your software version when posting about any software product.

You can hide and display the individual Field/Function and Operator window trees by using the icons next to the Crystal Syntax/Basic Syntax selection pulldown in the upper right hand corner (again, version dependent.

If you do see the fields but you can't double click them and have them appear in the formula properly (sans braces), then my first reaction would be to restart Crystal, which I'd guess you have, then the computer itself.

It may be that some DLL has become currupted if you can see fields but they don't insert properly.

Did you change data sources? I think the available functions (and whether they need to be used in the format {fn ()} or directly) vary by datasource.

Thanks for the quick response (!). I told you it was a dumb question (or should that be a dumb user?). It's Crystal v8.5 connecting to Baan V ERP - don't know what db type it is. It's always been the same data source and I've had no problem in the past - just the last few days. I thought it was something to do with the data source but as that hasn't changed I'm stumped.

Dear Sarpal1,

When you use the term expression builder are you talking about the SQL Expressions item?

This is meant for writing straight sql statements. And, indeed has a different list of functions and will place fields in the expression builder window in the syntax that is correct for your db.

Do the fields go in as "TABLE"."Field". If so, then this is the issue.

The formula editor (Right Click on Formula and Select New) is where new Crystal Formulas are created.

I think that perhaps you clicked on the wrong item.
