I'm sure someone must have done this. I've just set up a new machine for someone and it uses Outlook. Their old machine has OE6 and they would like their stored messages and contacts moved to the new machine.

Of course Express doesn't have PST files so how do you move messages?

Contacts looks like it should be easy but if anyone has any advice it would be much appreciated.

I've done a quick search of the forum but can't seem to find a thread that covers this.

You should be able to Export FROM Outlook Express to Outlook.
In Outlook Express, choose File - Export.

As far as I can establish you only get this option if both Express and Outlook are installed on the same machine.

Of course, and that should not be a problem.
You can always use the import from Outlook too, although that is a little tricky sometimes.

So it looks like best option is to load Outlook on the machine, import the data and then copy PST etc files to the new machine.

That is one option, yes.
That, or copy the inbox and other db files to the new PC and import.
