I am getting stopped in the middle of exporting a sequence to a movie file and it says "I/O error" and won't finish.

I am using MOST clips from a previous sequence which worked when exporting to a movie file. The sequence I am working on now is much larger now. Also, I am using clips sent from someone in Europe if that would make a difference. Only a few new clips were used from my Europe source in the present sequence.

Two camcorders were used for the footage. One American Panasonic which is new (mini DV) and the other I am not sure but uses DV tapes.

Any advice would help thanks!

It is always hard to find answers when the problem is not fully described. I don't know which version of Premiere you are using or anything about your hardware setup.

I would guess that there are two possible causes for this: mixed footage (PAL/NTSC); or a disk issue.

It would be worth disabling all the European clips and seeing if the problem goes away. If successful, then you could use a utility like ProCoder to convert PAL to NTSC before using the clips on the Premiere timeline.

If it is a disk issue, then:
Check scratch disks have adequate space.
Check system drive has some spare space.
Run a disk check on all hard drives.

If, perchance, you are using an external drive, then that might also be the root cause.

Thanks!

I am using an external hard drive. Spaced out on that thought.

Thanks for the help I appreciate it. Works like a champ now.
