Does anyone know of a way to export to Excel and split any Groups within the Report into seperate Worksheets or into seperate files?

Yes, when you export to excel use the tabular option and this should work, although I have never tried it. Software Support for Macola, Crystal Reports and Goldmine

Thanks for the response. I have tried it but unfortunately it doesn't work, I get spaces between the various groups as normal rather than the data in the various groups appearing in seperate worksheets as I am after.

Matt,

be sure and format the group as "new page after" and try this again. Software Support for Macola, Crystal Reports and Goldmine

Already had it set to provide a new page for each group but it still doesn't work.

Any other ideas?

Well, I almost hate to say this, but what are you going to do to the info once it get to Excel?

Without fail, when I am asked by a client to export to excel, it is so the user can further manipulate the data once it gets there. Also without fail, it is something that Crystal can accomplish anyway, and usually quicker.

Lets go down this path and see where it takes us.

This really isn't an option. The point is that I only want to run one Report but want the data split down when it is exported, whether it is into seperate work sheets or seperate files.

There are around 100 groups but the data in each one is confidential. This is why I was hoping to be able to split the data, but have only one Report.

The split could be done in Excel using a macro to find each group and move the data into a new sheet but this is something I didn't want to have to resort to.

When you say it is not an option, why not? What is it that is going to be done in Excel that cannot be done with crystal?

Crystal can handle 100 groups confidentially with "new page after" selected from each group. Software Support for Macola, Crystal Reports and Goldmine

Okay that sounds good. But what do you mean by '.... can handle 100 groups confidentially....'? Are you saying that there is way to control who can view data within one Report on the basis of their authorisations?

Matt,

Actually the control in CR is better than what exists in excel, IMO.

Make a parameter field for a username and password. Hard code string variables into the report to supress the entire report if the user does not know the password.

Also, conditionally suppress sections/records you do not each individual to see, or exclude them altogether with record/group seleciton formula, so that the user can only see what you want them to.

If you have any questions on how to do this let me know. Software Support for Macola, Crystal Reports and Goldmine

Hi dgillz,
Can you explain or give me an example of how to do the password parameter and the conditional suppression according to the individual?
Also, could the password be modifiable by the user in case of security issues?
Thanks,[thumbsup2]

Hey,

Dgillz, tabular option? Where would one find this?

Matt.H. It's been my experience that when you export to excel, what you see is what you get. If you have a 100 groups and export them to excel, they all end up on Sheet1 and you have to cope from there. I thought I tried everything as far as exporting to excel goes. Does "New Page After" really split groups onto seperate sheets? Don't think so.

If security in a report is what your after, I would persue Dgillz's suggestion...

Just my 2 cents....

Nuffsaid.

Jacque-

Lets say Don and Bill are the people who can run the report. Don's password is "9919" and Bills is "Apple".

Create 2 parameters, one that prompts for a User, and one for a password.

In make your record selection formula look like this:

If {?User} not in ["Don","Bill"] then false else
If {?User} ="Don" and {?Password}<>"9919" then false else
If {?User} ="Bill" and {?Password}<>"Apple" then false else
If User="Don" then << Logic for Don's Records>> else
If User="Bill: then <<Logic for Bill's Records>>

Let me know if oyu have any questions.

Don

Nuffsaid,

The tabular option does not do what I said it does. As a matter of fact, it appears that Crystal does not do this at all when exporting to excel, although I swear I have pulled this off before.

I will be doing some testing with this on Thursday and will post if/when I figure this out. Software Support for Macola, Crystal Reports and Goldmine
