Exporting to Excel Problems

I have a report that gathers information related to certain products. The report has a linked subreport that runs as well.

I have no problems running the report and exporting it to excel in Crystal designer for the most part. However, when the report takes a relatively long time to export in ePortfolio, it fails to do so. This only happens for certain products that have a lot of info.

The error message I get reads: "Data on the Page Server may have changed. In order to prevent the display of inconsistant information, the data cached in your browser will have to be refreshed. [On Page Server: CRYSTAL-SPT1.cacheserver]"

Has anyone else encountered this problem? Is this some kind of time out which occurs during exporting? If so, can I extend the time allowed to export?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

What does "relatively long time" equate to?

There are lots of settings within CE, perhaps the default 5 minute default timeout in the page server settings (CMC->Servers) is getting you.

If you can provide some specific info, perhaps someone can better assist you.

I apologize for leaving out information.

Any reports that I've exported thru ePortfolio have taken under a minute to export, definitely not over a minute. However, this report I am working on takes close to 4 minutes before the error appears, and nothing is exported.

I thought this error is occurring due to a timeout setting but wasn't sure. I don't see the 5 min default timeout setting on the page server that you are talking about. When I go into the Page Server I have 3 options:

Location of temp files
Max Simultaneous Processing threads (set to 75)
Min before an Idle job is closed (set to 20)

Is there somewhere else I need to be looking?

Hmmm, I guess my default is different, or you've already changed it, I was referring to:

Minutes Before an Idle Job is Closed: 5

Check the Crystal Cache Server Settings too:

Minutes Before an Idle Job is Closed:
Minutes Between Refreshes from Database:

The latter might be a problem.

There are a number of "minutes idle" that you want to check. I too have had - and still have with some reports - this problem. Check all the servers and up the minutes idle. I have mine set at 30. This still is not adequate time when exporting large reports (5-10k record range) that have detail level subreports. I can export to other formats just fine.. it is only excel that is the problem. I just can't qualify the additional idle out time for most users for the two users that would like this report in excel.

I haven't had time to completely test all changes to the servers yet but have come across another problem in my exporting of Crystal reports to Excel.

In Crystal Reports designer, I have 2 fields - a text field and a memo field. These fields can hold a lot more than 255 characters. However, when I export these reports to excel, only 255 characters are exported.

I know excel cells can hold more than 255 characters so why do I lose data during my export? Is there any way to fix this?

Nevermind, I found my answer in Knowledge Base article c2004511
